School is winding down, which means kids will be spending more time around the farm. However, these are what Safe Kids Grand Forks coordinator Carma Hanson refers to as the 100 deadliest days of the year. One danger on the farm this time of the year is the large equipment moving in and out of the yard and to and from fields. The size of that equipment has also got larger over time. “Just think about the size of that equipment and how long it takes for it to stop,” says Hanson. “There are also blind zones where a child, animal or a car can’t been seen. That’s why we need to give kids boundaries and a safe place to play.” Hear more from Hanson in the latest RRFN Rural Perspectives podcast.

Soybeans continue to be a point of discussion in the commodity markets. AgCountry Farm Credit Services Market Education Specialist Katie Tangen thinks there could be some confusion when interpreting soybean stock numbers from USDA. That market is very seasonal, so it’d be normal for the U.S. soybean sales to be lower in the coming months. Looking further down the road in the late July/August timeframe, Tangen says U.S. soybeans start to become more competitive again. Hear more in the latest RRFN Rural Perspectives podcast episode.
